It would be interesting to know how many Koels there are in Canberra.  I feel a 
lot of the sightings, or rather hearings, probably relate to the same bird.  
The Macquarie Koel has been present most days since I first heard it on 22 
October.  Sometimes it sounds very close, other times very distant.  It was 
fairly close this morning at about 4.30am.
