There was a koel calling at about 8 o’clock this morning in some eucalypts between the rebuilt Stromlo forestry settlement and Warragamba Ave in Duffy. And I’ve heard another from my house most mornings and evenings for about the past four or five weeks. I traced it on one occasion to a tree in the back yard of a house just up the hill from the Griffith shops, and on another to a laneway a couple of streets away from the Narrabundah shops. The second location was about 1.2km by my bike speedo in a mostly straight line from home, and its call had been clearly audible from that distance on a quiet Sunday morning.

We also saw three little eagles this morning on Mt McDonald a couple of km SE of Uriarra forestry settlement.
