Some observations from the weekend in the Gungahlin-Gundaroo area: A pair of SUPERB PARROTS flying west almost over the Gungahlin Marketplace yesterday afternoon. They did seem a bit hesitant on which direction to fly. Another pair heard today towards Harrison. This species does not seem to be in as large numbers as last year and are definitely not using last years route over our house. A vocal BROWN SONGLARK yesterday in high grass along Flemington Rd by the intersection with Nullarbor Avenue. There seem to be several in the local area this year including birds seen in the past month by the Amaroo Playing Fields and also in long grass along Mulligans Flat Rd (recently renamed from Gundaroo Rd). On Saturday while selecting our xmas tree at the Gundaroo Christmas Tree farm (~1km N of Gundaroo) I was surprised to see some 10 WHITE-FRONTED CHATS in the grass among the trees and also perched along a fence and atop some xmas trees. The large flock included several juvenile/immature birds. Also seen/heard here were SUPERB PARROTS, SKYLARKS and a BROWN SONGLARK. There were many KESTRELS and BROWN FALCONS on the drive home. Cheers Marnix |
