Wendy wombat is not at all the same as Harry, since she will never be
part of a human neighbourhood or bring delight to so many people, but
she is a reminder of the other side of human behaviour. Elizabeth
Compston and I met Wendy during a walk the day before Harry was
killed. She had been found and nurtured by a couple from Byron Bay
after her mum was hit by a car. The couple had made her a pouch out
of a thick pillow cover and were feeding her and carrying her
everywhere. Outrageously cute as most babies are, she seemed happy
enough and was being taken to a wildlife centre yesterday. I'm
posting Wendy at Elizabeth's suggestion as a small example of the
positive aspects of human nature, the kind that Harry used to enjoy.
