I saw the Owl again for the first time in a couple of weeks. Re the
recent discussions... a) it still has blood on its bib presumably from the Thursday/Friday meal. Given that when first seen (at the time of green in droppings i.e surmised hunger or illness) it had a pristine front, this is circumstantial evidence that it had not then eaten for some time (since no blood and blood seems to remain for a number of days), so it might have indeed been hungry. b) my "close-up" photos (not really taken any closer than any other photos, but fully blown up) show that it seems to have an unnatural hole in its cere which is getting bigger (like a third nostril except that the rain can get in). I mention this in relation to age and health discussion, but not sure what it might mean for either if anything. You can see the difference in these two photos, one taken 5 weeks ago and one today... 16 June - http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=564946113&size=o 13 May - http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=497028057&size=o Note please don't view these photos if you are squeamish about traces of blood, or are likely to get indignant and write rude emails to me about apparent 'camera in face of bird' :) Julian ******************************************************************************************************* This is the email announcement and discussion list of the Canberra Ornithologists Group.
