I'll back Ian up to the extent that in my 14 years of visiting Kellys Swamp I've never seen weed development to the extent it is at the moment. In previous dry periods the swamp has been reduced to dried cracked mud but usually refills before any significant weed growth. The tallest I've seen weed growth previously was probably less than a foot high before refilling.
I imagine that when (if) the swamp ever does refill the weeds will all die down and rot and produce a huge amount of organic matter that may either
1. lead to a superabundance of food
2. lead to a toxic mass of detritus
3. fill the bed of the swamp with so much organic matter that the level will be too high for the swamp ever to fill again... (tongue partially in cheek)
Will be interesting to watch.
Harvey
