I would concur with Michael's observations. On my
last couple of visits to Kelly's Swamp (KS) have noted a large number of Black
Ducks. On one occasion, a raptor flew over and put up what I took to be over 100
Black Ducks from the weeds. I was surprised because the most visible and vocal
ducks were Grey Teal until this eruption of Black Ducks. Since then have looked
for the Black Ducks more assiduously and found them quietly skulking among the
weeds.
One question for longer time people in
Canberra. What happens to this weed infestation? What is the succession
plant-wise or pond-wise?
