I was surprised at what you wrote so I looked at
the book. Actually the description of a juvenile pallid in the Readers Digest
book says DARK brown and white (at least my copy says that). Maybe it is
not quite black but it is close enough to it. As a field characteristic it is
that it impresses as a almost balck and white bird that sets it apart from
others. Anyone want to take any bets on it NOT being a pallid cuckoo. Only
joking!
