No Michael, everyone knows that grebes are baby ducks!

A month or two ago, a birder told me he had been watching White Swans on the Yarra at Eltham Lower Park. I know those birds - they are Domestic geese, probably with owners living next to the park. He would admit the grey birds as Geese, but the white ones had to be Swans.

It would be quite a good thing if Field Guides could perhaps spare a page or two (perhaps with reduced-size pics) for domestic birds and common exotic escapes. Muscovy Ducks, Mandarins, Lovebirds, Conures, Indian Ringnecks, Chukor, Pheasants...not to mention blue budgies.

I hadn't realised before that the Hoary-headed Grebes along our foreshore are not only baby Cormorants but also the grand-children of Pelicans.
