RFI: Black-EARED KITE status in Australia

I forgot to mention that the bird had an immaculate plumage, no signs of moult
- thus, I think it was a juv. Although none of the hundreds of kites up there
looked like this one, I guess there is not enough evidence to make this bird a
definite lineatus.

Thanks,

Nikolas

G'day Nikolas,

Have you aged the kite and definitely ruled out juvenile affinis which could
also fit your description.

Cheers Jeff Davies.

September 22, we observed a Black Kite in Alice Springs that phenotypically
looked perfect for a Black-eared Kite Milvus migrans lineatus: large pale
Black Kite with contrasting dark mask and ear coverts.
Is there anything known about its status in Australia?

Nikolas
