Thanks Clive, Philip and Russell, Thanks for all your input! I've seen migrans in Europe and Africa, aegyptius/parasiticus in Africa, govinda in India, lineatus in SE-Asia and affinis in Australia. The particular bird in Alice Springs I was talking about (unfortunately we didn't get a picture taken) looked different from the accompanying affinis and still makes me think of lineatus (which is migratory and thus not totally unexpected). I guess, we should keep our eyes open!
