Hi Scot,

As a perpetual student I have been passing by the UQ lakes regularly for several years and must say that Spotless Crake is far from a usual suspect. Can you provide more information as to where you saw it?

Thanks, Pete Kyne

This afternoon around 4pm a quick stroll around the lakes in the UQ
grounds got all the usual suspects;

Spotless Crake
Dusky Moorhen
Purple Swamphen
Eurasian Coot
Wood Duck
Pacific Black Duck
Masked Lapwing

One of the Dusky Moorhen had 3 bands on the left left from the top
dark blue or black, green, and white, and a metal on the right. Its
middle toe was missing, looks like it was bitten off my something and
the poor bird had a slight limp. We also saw two other Moorhens one
with a missing leg the other with a lame leg.

15 little black cormorants all perched together on the branches of
small dead tree overhanging the lake (never seen them in that
concentration before)

Got a nice close observation of a solitary Little Egret fishing out
small fry (1 to 2cm) fish from the edge of the lake.

The 4 Helmeted Guinea Fowl where also there, hanging out with some
mallards on the south side of the lake.

Heaps of Corellas as usual too.

Saw a large chestnut or russet coloured wing disappear into a tree
much to the consternation of the resident noisy miners, but when we
walked around to see if we could find the bird, it could not be found.
