Hi all
Further to Michael Norris' note on Powerful Owl prey items and their
adaptability, my recollection of the pair in the Sydney Botanic Gardens
(June/July 1999 or 2000) was that I always saw them sitting on a rat, not a
flying fox, even though their roost was in the middle of the gardens' colony
of flying foxes. Perhaps they have specific tastes or target what they
consider to be the easiest prey?
(I was working at a company whose premises on Bridge St were a 5 minute walk
from the owls' favoured roosts, so I went to see them probably 6 or 7 times
over the course of a month that winter.)
Cheers
Tom Wilson
