Hi All, Phillip asks
Is this a new phenomenon of these birds in Sydney (and maybe other cities) or
is it just this birding-aus list making us more aware of them.
I have solicited this same question to many people even some of the experts and
never received a complete answer.
The ones in Sydney are there more than
likely because of the Flying Fox colony a good reliable food source.I'm certain
that more birdwatchers know the call of this species and look for the birds
more these days. Of course there are many more bird watcher than there was
15years ago.
I would hae thought that nesting hollows and their food source would have
diminished in a urban environment so we would have less of them. Apparently
not, and there are certainly good numbers of possums in most suburbs.
