Thanks - problem seemed to be that on XP the Program Files is read only. WHen I unset it using Explorer it still showed up as read-only - weird. JBird would not create a new directory using the installer, but if I created one myself then it worked OK.

Hi Dave,

Yes, I managed to get it to run on my PC OK, the first time I tried it
failed to install, but when I then tried a second time, it installed OK.
However it seemed a bit complicated compared with another database I have,
so deleted it again.

I downloaded the British 'Jeff's Birding Database' from http://up.to/brandon
then replaced the British birds with Australian Birds by editing the
database and using a set of data I downloaded listing all the Australian
birds. Jeff's database uses Access, but unfortunately a lot of the forms are
locked, so I was not able to edit some aspects of it which I would have
liked to change.
