Not sure if anyone is aware but there is a free birding database program
available for download, J-Bird.
It is a Java open-source beta program for Windows, Linux or Mac, I've
installed it and tried it out and must say it looks OK (.... if you can
get your head-around the unusual lay-out.)
It can be downloaded from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/j-bird/
