Owlet Nightjars

Hi All,

Excuse the 'pun' but it 'sounds' like the secret to finding Owlet-Nightjars is to learn the call. At night the most obvious one seems to be a "kee-ick" sound but in winter they often call in the daytime, a double-syllabled deep "brrrp-brrrp" very different to the former. I once found some young at night (from their call) begging with a strange monontonous sound.

We usually have them around and regularly hear them on our acreage at Samsonvale, though they have been a bit quiet lately. In SE Qld I've found them fairly common in mangroves, eucalypt woodland and rainforest, further afield they are found in brigalow and mulga areas.

If anyone in the Brisbane area wants some help with sites please contact me privately on the address below.
