Musk Lorikeet, Rose Robin, Fuscous Honeyeater
Haigslea Cemetery/Raysource Rd
Reached crossroads at ten to 4. A decent number of flowering Gums meant a profusion of nectivorous birds, including all four local lorikeet species. Musks were hard to spot at first but became steadily more apparent, feeding mostly in the highest branches. One male Rose Robin showed briefly but nicely. The reliable Fuscous Honeyeaters showed sporadically.

Plum-headed Finch
Back Flagstone Road, Helidon
One pair of Plum-headed Finch seen at about 3pm, on overhead wires just near the Murphy Bridge crossing. The water treatment facility up the road (seen through their gate) had a few Pink-eared Ducks, teal and Pac Black Ducks on it, and some Chestnut-breasted Mannikins on the perimeter.

Red-necked Avocet, Australian Hobby
Seven Mile Lagoon, Lockyer Waters
An exploratory excursion yesterday found Seven Mile Lagoon to be full (or at least, quite full). From Jimba Rd we saw a small flock of 13 Red-necked Avocet amongst hundreds of Black-winged Stilt and what must have been thousands of coots and ducks (mostly teal, but also Pink-Ears and Pac. Blacks). The resident Hobby was conspicuous and gave good looks, hawking over the paddocks and landing on the wires. Unfortunately we didn't have a scope so couldn't census the birds properly; we would encourage anyone with a good scope to go out and have a proper look.
As an aside, the Banded Lapwings on/around Banool are apparently all gone.

Early morning with excellent light seemed to be the best time to photograph this bird which showed along with the Sharpies much closer today at the Kianawah Rd end.

White-faced Storm-Petrel
Southport Pelagic
A record count of White-faceds today - over 40! This species was first recorded in 2009 off Southport (the first live record for Qld) and now they are regular in April. Most were adults in heavy primary moult.

White-bellied Storm-Petrel

A stunning light phase bird was the highlight of today's trip along with yet another 'New Cal' or 'Coral Sea' Storm Petrel. This is the first record off Southport in more than 10 years (apart from a Seamount record). This will be subject to a BARC Submission.

Ruff (Reeve), Musk Lorikeet
Lindum Wetlands
While checking out 1 Ruff (Reeve; Raja's photo attached), 18 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, 8 Marsh Sandpipers, 2 Black-fronted Dotterels and the usual Pied Stilts and Masked Lapwings, 4 Musk Lorikeets flew north (the characteristic flight calls got us onto them). Lewin's Rail, Noisy Pitta, Spotted Harrier
Rafting Ground Reserve
Three Lewin's Rails detected, one of them sighted. Some riparian habitat strips inhabited by the community of small rail species are being narrowed by weed spraying. Pitta called from eucalypt regrowth with vine scrub and non-native thickets, between Moggill Creek and Kenmore houses, as walker with dog passed by, after sunset on 16th.

Seen from Kianawah Rd feeding with Marsh Sandpipers. As it is about the same size as the Marsh Sandpipers I wonder if it is a Reeve.

Rufous Fantail
Oxley Creek Common
One Rufous Fantail sighted along the creek line, just past the large Eucalptus. Behaviour was very active. Also present in the same area were Yellow Rumped Thornbills, Mangrove Gerygone, Leaden Flycatcher female and a Varied Triller pair.

SEQ Seamounts
Loads of great seabirds on this weekend's (60 hr) pelagic - the highlights of which were Collared Petrel (3) - 1 int, 2 dark, Polynesian Storm-Petrel 1 light int, 15+ 'New Caledonian' type Storm-Petrels - these are an undescribed taxa like large NZ Storm-Petrels (previously seen off SEQ and New Cal). Photos and more details to follow! All records subject to BARC Submission etc as usual.
