Short-tailed Shearwater, Southern & Northern Royal Albatross & Pomarine Jaeger
Port MacDonnell Pelagic
Unusual in that we had 3-400, or perhaps more Short-tailed Shearwaters coming in directly behind boat for food. They must have been hungry, because Short-tailed Shearwaters usually only occasionally come in to burley, & then it's usually a dozen or so. It provided great photo opportunities of this species which is usually quite hard to photograph at sea. Also had 1 juvenile/immature each of Northern & Southern Royal, which both cam in close. One dark morph Pomarine Jaeger flew past midway to the shelf. 1 Cape Petrel, subspecies capense came up to boat. Also about a dozen Wilson's Storm-petrels & a few Flesh-footed Shearwaters about. Giant Petrels & prions, totally absent.
