Birdline Tasmania

Published sightings for the week ending 8 Sep 2013.

Sat 7 Sep Australasian Bittern Waterhouse Conservation Area
Following Richard Ashby's and Hazel Britton's report a few days ago, we gleaned further info from Hazel, and found this bird giving good views as it strolled between patches of reed cover. We stayed in the car, but it seemed little purturbed by our presence.
John, Shirley, Peter and Kimberley Tongue

Wed 4 Sep Tawny Frogmouth Gladstone Rd
Roadkill specimen half way between Waterhouse and Tomahawk turnoff. Sp seen or heard by me depressingly infrequently.
Richard Ashby. Hazel Britton

Black-Winged Stilt Big Waterhouse Lagoon
Single bird roosting with pelicans at western end of lagoon. Only head seen but unmistakeable diagnosis before bird flew off unseen.
Richard Ashby

Single bird in full view from roadside on small lagoon immediately north of main lagoon. My first sighting of this sp. in Tas in probably 30y.
