Drones & birding

Roughly twenty years ago, I used to walk with friends in the spectacular Plenty Gorge area at Yarrambat,Victoria.(Now a Melbourne suburb;it wasn't then). One of our landmarks was a disused Wedge-tailed Eagles' nest. Locals told me that this had been in use until a local model plane society started in the area, whose members thought it amusing to harass the Eagles with radio-controlled model planes.

I should be very concerned if people took to flying drones over wader or seabird roosts. The birds have quite enough to put up with.

Dear B-A,

Has anyone on the list had any experience using camera equipped quadricopter
style drones for birding? They seem to have the potential to be a useful tool
for observing waders and the like.

I would be interested in hearing of anyones experiences.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford
