Redthroat (Pyrrholaemus brunneus) (5) Hard to be sure of the exact number, but
various birds were singing and gave brief views throughout the Landscapes of
Change walk.

Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) (22) A flock of 22 Cattle Egret feeding in the
Milang Snipe Reserve.

Date: Sunday, August 19, 2012

Location: Angus River bridge, Lake Road, 3.4 km NE of Milang

Fairy Martin (Hirundo ariel) (30+) A mixed flock of Welcome Swallow and Fairy
Martin. Fairy Martins were flying under the bridge, providing excellent
opportunity for person standing on the bridge to observe the bird's rufous
crown.

Reported by: Bob Snell on Wednesday, August 22, 2012

---------------------------------------------

Date: Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Location: Munroo Channell

Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) (1) Have belatedly checked the
backup of the distant, poor photo of the two Whimbrels previously reported.
Definitely Eastern Curlews.
Bad mistake. Apologies.
Thank you Jeff Crocker.

Reported by: Colin Theakstone on Friday, August 24, 2012

---------------------------------------------

Date: Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Location: Mundoo Channel Hindmarsh Is.

Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) (1) Two birds sighted twice, possibly same pair.
Is this early for return or normal for overwintering?

Reported by: Colin Theakstone on Tuesday, August 21, 2012

---------------------------------------------

Date: Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Location: Murray Mouth and Bird Island, Hindmarsh Island.

Red-necked Avocet (Recurvirostra novaehollandiae) (350+) Tide very high and
birds roosting in four distinct groups, two on Bird Island, one each at the
Murray Mouth lookout and across the water at Pullen Spit.

Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) (2) Two first seen in saltmarsh near
the large sandbar just east of the lookout, flew across to Bird Island and
later back towards the west. Two observers were nearer Bird Island at the time
and I respectfully suggest that it was these birds rather than Whimbrel that
they saw.

Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica) (3) Three at roost with Red-necked Avocets
at Murray Mouth lookout.

Fairy Tern (Sterna nereis) (5) Four in adult non breeding plumage and one
immature on the sandbar just east of the lookout. The concentration of Terns in
the area was spectacular, 300+ Caspian at the same locations as the Avocets,
500+ Crested on the sandbar.

White-bellied Sea-Eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) (1) Single adult circling over
the Younghusband Peninsula.

This is an exciting location at high tide with large numbers of Pelicans,
Cormorants and Grey Teal in the area in addition to the terns and waders with
the added interest of 12 or more NZ Fur Seals at the mouth some of which were
having sparring practice before they return to their colonies.

Reported by: Jeffrey Crocker on Tuesday, August 21, 2012

---------------------------------------------

Date: Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Location: Rive Torrens Adelaide

Red-rumped Parrot (Psephotus haematonotus) (2) Two on the upper banks of the
Torrens just west of the Festival Theatre. Have seen them there before
reasonably often.

Date: Thursday, August 23, 2012

Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) (1) A Single bird working the
margin of the swamp closest to the road.

spot past the Barrage.
