Published sightings for the week ending 13 May 2012.

Sun 13 May Striated Grasswren Opalton
Three Striated Grasswren on small sandstone rise just south of Opalton. Several groups of Rufous-crowned Emu-wrens and many Grey-headed Honeyeaters also.

Fri 11 May Letter-winged Kite, Plains Wanderer Monkira Station, Southern Boundary Astrebla Downs National Park,
Two, possibly three Plains Wanderers seen at 7pm on Road. Two seen initially, after another search another single bird was sighted close to the first sighting. Possible same bird! 17 Letter-winged Kites also seen close to the southern boundary to Astrebla Downs NP (no public access to Astrebla Downs). Two Gibberbirds and many Inland Dotterels in same general area. Other notable sighting was Feirce Snake (Inland Taipan) on route to Bedourie.

Sooty Owl Morans Creek Valley, O'Reillys, Lamington National Park SEQld
Some territorial calling increasing a bit more this time of year, caught a view of the sooty flying over in the spotlight during a night tour, calling as it went.

Cotton Pygmy-goose Anzac Park Maryborough
Cotton Pygmy-goose (2) A pair initially resting on Ululah Lagoon and not disturbed by golfers moving on the adjacent golf course. Later swam off slowly to feed.

Hall's Babbler, Chestnut breasted Quail-thrush Eulo Bore
Two groups of Hall's Babblers, 1km west of the town of Eulo and 7.5km east of Eulo Bore. 3 Chestnut-breasted Quail-thrush at 3.5kms east of Eulo Bore.

Thu 10 May Grey Grasswren, Gibberbird Bulloo River Overflow
5 Grey Grasswren seen, more heard, along drainage lines in Bulloo overflow. 1 Gibberbird on adjacent Gibber plains.

Tue 8 May Black Falcon Rockhampton Airfeild
Single Black Falcon observed hunting along a creek line before perching on neighboring fence..

Bush Hen Savages Rd, Upper Brookfield
Single bird was on muddy creek bank on side of the road, feeding along water edge, close to weedy vegetation. Was oblivious to occassional passing car and was able to watch closely from about 4m for 10 mins.

Mon 7 May Rufous Scrub Bird Lamington National Park, Tooloona Circuit near Border Track
Was calling among ferns before it jumped onto a buttress. Many Albert's Lyrebirds also calling down in the NSW valleys.

Square-tailed Kites Below the Mt Cootha ABC TV tower on The Gap side
2 clearly seen hawking over the tree tops . Were there 6 May as well about same time ---11.30am

Sun 6 May Pale-vented Bush-hen Karalee
Three Bush-hens seen across the Brisbane River from the lookout under power lines at Anstead Bush Reserve. Skittish, but extended views out in the open.

Pale-headed x Eastern Rosella Maleny 10' Cell
Pale-headed x Eastern Rosella (2) Both hybrids were flushed from Mountain View road side - flew to a nearby tree before flying away together. The Pale-headed had a little red on its head while the other, which looked at a glance like an Eastern Rosella, had yellow patches on the head and throat.

Albert's Lyrebird Joalah Section, Tamborine Mountain National Park
Large male Albert's Lyrebird seen at the lower (closed) section of Joalah. Bird was in the Bangalow Palm swamp at the bottom of the walk which was rather wet (and therefore hard to walk through).
