Hi Debbie,
Does the 12 include the two unbanded juveniles down there? There was also
apparently a chick still being fed by an adult male according to the
volunteers. We just got back from Tas and were there last week. The most we
saw were 7 birds at one time although we only saw one adult male and i think
one adult female.
Such an awesome place and experience!
(Trip report and images to come soon!)
Cheers

This year's breeding at Melaleuca has produced 12 juveniles so far. Twenty one
adults were observed at the start of the summer ie 33 known birds.
Three females of the 21 adults are unaccounted for and believed to have been
breeding somewhere else in the range.
At Taroona breeding facility, the total number fledged is 24, bringing the
number in captivity to around 100. Results from other breeding facilities have
not yet been released.
