Hi All, I was just sent an excerpt of Thomas & Thomas 2nd edition re; Southport
Pelagics. I don't know who did the research but it's obvious I was not
consulted, it has several inaccuracies.
1. We stopped using the Sea World Research & Rescue vessel in 2000.
2. There have been 78 species of seabird recorded outside the Seaway since 1995
not 62.
3. Tahiti Petrel has been recorded in every month and more often than not
approach the vessel.
4. Some of the key species mentioned for Wollongong are actually seen in
greater numbers off Southport eg. Providence Petrel Apr-Oct. There have been
6 South Polar Skua sightings off Southport, 2 of those were sent to BARC and
accepted a 3rd is pending.
I've actually mentioned on Birding-aus that Tahiti Petrel has occurred in every
month and also the number of species recorded.
Still, it was good to get a mention in the book and it was a great improvement
on the original section, at least my new home phone number is correct.
Cheers - Paul W and it is okay to use my work number (07) 3139 4584 and my
e-mail.
