Location: Pengilly Scrub, Roseworthy
Brown Treecreeper (Climacteris picumnus) (~4+) was pleased to see several Brown
Treecreepers utilising this isolated patch of remnant native vegetation in an
otherwise sea of agricultural land. Other species of interest observed
included many Elegant Parrots, 2 Brown Falcons with one juvenile, White-browed
and Dusky Woodswallows.

Date: Wednesday, January 12, 2011
Location: Greenfields Wetlands, Magazine Road
Long-toed Stint (Calidris subminuta) (2) Two birds huddled together beyond the
pond in front of the bird hide.
Pectoral Sandpiper (Calidris melanotos) (1) A single bird associating with a
group of Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (Calidris acuminata) at the back of the pond in
front of the bird hide.
Baillon's Crake (Porzana pusilla) (1) Observed flying into reeds in front of
the western embankment.
The water level is slowly falling in the pond in front of the bird hide
exposing some muddy areas. See field trip report for full details.

Date: Thursday, January 13, 2011
Location: Dry Creek Saltfields, St Kilda
Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) (1) Observed associating with several Sharp-tailed
Sandpiper (Calidris acuminata) on the wet areas opposite the spit (near the
double bridges). Location is in area D6 (see Reserve Map), on the western side
of the track.
Observed on the Birds SA field trip - see the field trip report for full
details of species seen. The continuous rain may make access to the saltfields
difficult over the next day or two. Several observers suggest there may be two.

Location: The Bluff, Encounter Bay
Cape Barren Goose (Cereopsis novaehollandiae) (27) Flock following coastline
near dark and heading west past The Bluff at Encounter Bay . . . NB unusual
movement at this time of year, flocks from Murray estuary islands usually seen
or heard after dark heading west in April-May to breeding sites on the Sir
Joseph Bank Group of Islands etc.
