I'm back on Birding-Aus after delisting for the trip to Cocos & Christmas
Islands by David James, Ian McAllan, Tony Palliser, Frank O'Connor, Tom
Smith and myself from 28 December 2010 to 6/7 January 2011. More on the trip
to follow.
On reading the archives on this matter, I found some opinions dismaying and applaud David for his erudite condemnation. Australian birders have an important role to play in maintaining and enhancing the profile of these places in the Australian psyche. If Australians, particularly naturalists, loses interest in these places, others are ready to move in to exploit the resources at the expense of conservation.
