Location: Warradale/Nth Brighton.

Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funereus) (8) 

Twice today I have seen these birds over my suburb.  The first time in my 25 
years in this area.

Date: Thursday, November 4, 2010

Location: Altona CSR Landcare Reserve

Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) (1) Sitting on a nest below the blue 
track.

Crested Shrike-tit (Falcunculus frontatus) (2) Alongside the spur off the 
yellow track.  Nesting Diamond Firetails and a Hooded Robin feeding young also 
in this area.

Location: Island View Drive, Clayton. Opposite Goose Island.

Darter (Anhinga novaehollandiae) (5) One bird was sitting on nest in dead tree 
at waters edge. I had seen Darter nesting in the same location about three 
years ago.

Little Black Cormorant (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris) (10) A pair of Little Black 
Cormorant were feeding young in a nest about 2m from the Darter's nest.

Location: Murray Mouth

Fairy Tern (Sterna nereis) (7) Birds were resting and one was diving for fish. 
They were on the small sand bar near the mouth and ovserved from the beach out 
from the lookout.

Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis) (100+) A flock of over 100 were flying 
on the seaward side of the mouth. A small number along with2 Red-capped Plover 
were foraging on the Hindmarsh Island Side.

Location: Lake Alexandrina. In paddock 4km south of Milang.

White-necked Heron (Ardea pacifica) (2) Feeding in wet paddock together with 
White-faced Heron, Great Egret, Yellow-billed Spoonbill, White Ibis and 
Straw-necked Ibis. Flocks of 100 - 150 Straw-necked Ibis seen flying over lake.

Location: Beacon 19 Goolwa

Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) (2) The two birds were feeding on the 
waters edge in the Goolwa channel 300mts short of the Beacon 19 car park, 23 
Bar - tailed were with them.

Location: Clayton Bay

Nankeen Night Heron (Nycticorax caledonicus) (2) One bird seen feeding in reeds 
just east of boat ramp. It flew off towards of Goose Island. Shortly afterwards 
a second bird flew past from the direction of Goolwa. Both were adults.

Latham's Snipe (Gallinago hardwickii) (8) At least 8 Latham's Snipe at the 
Milang Snipe Sanctuary.

Location: Meadows Road,Willunga Hill

Buff-banded Rail (Gallirallus philippensis) (1) One crossed the Meadows Road 
about 1.5 km from Willunga Hill.It came from a swampy area along a creekline 
and disappeared into dense undergrowth on the higher side of the road.Had to 
slow right down to avoid hitting it !

White-browed Scrubwren (Sericornis frontalis) (1) A single bird in Lignum at 
the small council reserve about 1/2 way along the peninsula.This my first local 
observation of this species after almost a decade in the area.

Location: Gum Lagoon CP, Upper SE

Slender-billed Thornbill (Acanthiza iredalei) (3) On edge of tea-tree swamp 
recovering from fire (burnt few years ago). May have been more in the area, but 
no birds were seen/heard at same location an hour or so later.

Southern Emu-wren (Stipiturus malachurus) (1) One male observed, others heard 
nearby - same location as above

Tawny-crowned Honeyeater (Phylidonyris melanops) (6+) Common but not abundant 
in the area, esp near mallee veg also recovering from fire.

Purple-gaped Honeyeater (Lichenostomus cratitius) (2) As for TCHE

Shy Heathwren (Hylacola cauta) (1) 1 seen briefly, others heard. Assuming not 
CRH, but only chestnut-rump & white tail tip seen - not black & white chevrons 
to be certain.

Full reserve/trip list pending.
