Birdline North Queensland 

Published sightings for the week ending 11 Jul 2010.

Sat 10 Jul      Cicadabird Townsville Town Common Conservation Park 
not common on the towncommon, usally seen in this area (dry lagoon on
the service road passed jacana hide) a couple of times a year.

Tue 6 Jul       Square-tailed Kite Lake Mitchell, north of Mareeba 
I observed an adult Kite at 11:30 am circling above melaleucas on the
eastern edge of Lake Mitchell. My first local sighting they have been
absent from the Mt. Molloy area this winter.

Mon 5 Jul       Southern Cassowary Murray Falls, Murray Upper NP 
Two separate individuals, both crossing the road close to the creek
crossings; one ran off the other stayed close by for about five minutes.

Sun 4 Jul       Pied Imperial Pigeon Eacham Rd Yungaburra 
one attracted to Alexander Palm fruits at 'On the Wallaby' hostel, and
flying about in the general vicinity, about 1pm. Unusual at this
location and rare anywhere at this time of year

        White-winged Chough Laroona Station Cell 
6-8 birds south of Herveys Range Road, west of Star River. Not a regular
bird this far north.

Wed 30 Jun      Grey Falcon Bladensburg National Park, Winton 
Sitting low in a small tree beside the main road running beside
Bladensburg. Flew off close to the car when I stopped, but clear view of
front and then wings as it flew.

Tue 29 Jun      Striated Grasswren Mt. Walker, Hughenden 
Seen in spinifex on the Mesa plateau, clear view. About 12 km south of
Hughenden, appears to be at least 200km outside the northern end of its
range.
