Birdline Tasmania

Published sightings for the week ending 9 May 2010.

Fri 7 May Black-headed Honeyeater Ulverstone
One bird searching for food in a hanging Fuchsia just outside our dining
room window. New Hollands common in our yard, but Black-heads much less
so.
John and Shirley Tongue

Royal Spoonbill, Nankeen Night-Heron, Silvereye. Queechy Lake,
Launceston.
It may be of interest to some that there are still 4 x Royal Spoonbill
present at the lake. Also Silvereye: (15+) were noteworthy as most have
departed by the end of April. Nankeen Night-Heron: (2) were roosting in
trees at the southern end of the lake. Also a single Brown Falcon seen
flying overhead briefly was the first I have recorded at this site.
Little Grassbird: had excellent views of one near the viewing platform.
James Melville

Wed 5 May Brown Quail, Dusky Woodswallow. Winifred Curtis Reserve,
Scamander.
34 species in total were observed during a walk through the reserve.
Highlights included observations of Brown Quail.
Liz Znidersic and others.

Mon 3 May Collared Sparrowhawk Mt Nelson
Perched in eucalypt in bushland behind Mt Nelson Medical Centre. Female.
(1).
Paul Brooks

Fri 30 Apr Yellow Wattlebird, Brown Falcon Sprent
One bird flying over the main road at Sprent. A common Species in many
parts of Tasmania, but surprisingly rare around the "Central Coast" area
of Tas. Also four Brown Falcons between Ulverstone and Leven Canyon
John and Shirley Tongue
