G'day Chris,

This request started with me, I was just trying to get larger file size
images from Raja because apparently they were downsized during email.

I am interested in the unusually dark under-wing of the Ulladulla bird and
want as much detail as possible. This bird also has a very small head and
broad outer-wing.

The Port Stephens bird looks more typical.

Cheers Jeff.

Hi Nikolas,

Simon should probably have been more specific, Raja's excellent photos are
on www.bird-o.com right now (via Dan Mantle with her permission). Just
click on the NZ Storm-Petrel thumbnail to be taken to a gallery of images.

Regards,
Chris

Hi all,

I asked Raja to provide the highest resolution images of "our" Storm-Petrel.
On another note, wasn't there a report of a New Zealand Storm-petrel in
Australian waters near Norfolk Island last year or two years ago? I believe
I saw this on a report from a long-distance pelagic (NZ to Japan).

Cheers,

Nikolas

Fabulous photo Robert and thanks for sharing it with us.

This Ulladulla individual certainly has unusually dark under-wing coverts
and a very small headed appearance.
The Port Stephens bird from the day before looks more typical.

Cheers Jeff.

Hi all,

further to Nikolas and Dan's post on the New Zealand Storm Petrel from
yesterdays pelagic, I've posted my best attempt at photographing it. I'll
add more photos later in the day. Also, there are photos of White-bellied
Storm-petrels from Lord Howe for comparison showing the variation in
plumage's you get there,

cheers,

Rob
