Anyone who is interested in the debate about albatross species might like to
have a look at the detailed discussion on the South American Checklist
Committee's website. They are voting on a proposal that Frank Rheindt was
asked to draft, as to whether the Wandering Albatross should be split into
multiple species. I see all of the votes so far do favour splitting it to some
degree. Frank's proposal addresses some of the questions that have been asked
about the relevance of genetic differences.

The Clements world bird checklist generally follows the decisions of the South
American Checklist Committee, though whtether they will do so for species that
also occur outside South America is less clear.
