I could imagine they might have some hope if they were asking to be able to shoot ferals only, such as pigs, rabbits, foxes, cats, etc. That could be a beneficial thing, but I'm not sure it would work out that way. Apart from the problems that might occur once people are allowed to have guns in parks, I doubt they'd ever eliminate those species. Once numbers drop, the area would be abandoned until numbers build up again. And I have heard of people actually introducing pigs into areas so they'd have something to hunt.
