I have been using Apples Mobile Me and its predecessor for a couple of years and have now switched to Gmail. Gmail gives me everything I used in Mobile Me for free, whereas I was paying AUD 119 per year for MM.

I highly recommend Gmail.

Cheers,

Hi all,
I have had a problem with my bigpond account since they upgraded their site back in February. I am on Apple and thought that that was the problem, but
maybe not. For me to enter my bigpond account takes some minute and then
moving through it is just as slow. bigpond no longer offers me an email
system I can be bothered using.

I solved the problem very easily though - I stopped using it and went to
Google gmail. This is a free, fast, and spam-free service and has a much
better interface that users can modify to their needs. I have added the
weather for Cairns, Broome and a few other desirable birding places, the
phases of the moon with astrological comments, a currency exchange rate
calculator and the news headlines. I now go to my bigpond account about once a month just to dump the spam and check that nothing important has arrived
by accident. I know bigpond works well for many but if not, why fight
TELSTRA when it is easier to leave and go to a better service?

cheers,

Jen

I am a Bigpond customer and have had no problems at all getting Birding-aus
messages. Do you have any idea whether it may be due to particular
settings
that each user may have?

Good evening birders,

It seems that many Bigpond subscribers have not been receiving birding-
aus emails for a couple of weeks now. The Vicnet support people have
been trying to track down the problem, and a few subscribers have
taken it up with Bigpond. Several have been told that the problem
occurs because some email is automatically directed to a Spam folder,
so you don't see those messages in your inbox. Unfortunately, Bigpond
Security have now outsourced its support services, so it might not be
easy to get these settings changed. I'm not sure how Bigpond does its
filtering - I don't know how much choice its customers have in
changing email settings.

This advice was sent to me from another Birding-Aus Bigpond subscriber
- I hope they don't mind me quoting it, as it might help some of you
sort out this issue (the author is someone at Bigpond helpdesk):

"Recently there is an ongoing issue that legitimate email addresses
are going to the spam folder. I would like to advise you that since
the launching of BigPond Security, all issues concerning the security
application we used to provide and support are now being handled by
McAfee Technical Support. If you are a subscriber of the older
security application, please contact McAfee on 1 800 998 887. If you
have any other questions, please visit our Help Centre at
www.bigpond.com/help
"

I'm contacting you directly through your subscribed address, by the
way, not through Birding-Aus. You don't need to reply, but please feel
free to do so if you have any questions or can shed further light on
the issue. I hope we can get your birding-aus mail working properly
again.

Many thanks,

Russell
