Ed,

Try this one:

It's insurance you will have an issue with. Most companies will hire you a vehicle but if you go "off road" it may invalidate your insurance! It's a great system they run here! One co in the NT even says that if you are "...more than 5KM from a major centre after dark.... " then your insurance is invalid. They are relying on you hitting one of our roos so as to get more money from you! This obviously does nothing for the roo either!

Also be careful if you take a punctured tyre back, they tend to say it's "irreparable" and charge for a new one - usually several hundred dollars more than you could have got one for and certainly more than you could have had it repaired for! It's worth finding someone to repair it. Also wash underneath thoroughly before handing it back, that's another few hundred dollars for "extra cleaning" they miraculously get you for!

There is a co in Adelaide that offers good service on 4WD's and I'll try and get that for you (Phil & Sue Gregory use them a lot?).

Cheers

Alan

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Australia from the UK in June/July and want to hire a
4WD for some of it so I can drive off the bitumen without worrying about
having a prang and having to pay a huge excess! Can anyone suggest their
experience of which of the main hire companies tend to offer the best rates
etc.
Cheers,
