4wd hire

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Australia from the UK in June/July and want to hire a
4WD for some of it so I can drive off the bitumen without worrying about
having a prang and having to pay a huge excess! Can anyone suggest their
experience of which of the main hire companies tend to offer the best rates
etc.
