I've rrecently bought a Swarovski with HD glass - nice scope but expensive.
You'll also need to decide whether to go for an angled or straight-through
version of whatever you buy.
Angled is best if there are people of different heights using the scope in a
group. Straight-through is easier to find stuff, especially in forested
habitats.
Fixed magnification lenses are definitely superior to zooms, but suffer the
problem that finding things is slightly trickier. I use a 30x which is OK in
most areas, but tough in forest.
