I find the '1 + 1 = 3' logic of journalists more than a little annoying. Science is very good at saying what is happening, but why it is happening is very difficult. The same is done on the stockmarket, if jurnos knew why the market went up and down they would be in a different job, one that pays much better.

I also know that repeated spotlighting at one location often shows a pattern of decreasing numbers. Whether this is due to lower detection due to avoidance response (hopefully) or by some process such as eye damage and death from predation or from missing the next jump is unknown.
