Like Anthea, the feeding behaviour I have seen of these birds involved
sitting on bare sticks on trees looking about intently until they spied a
caterpilar in the tree or a nearby one, then swooping over to grab it.
Moving to a new vantage point once 1st was exhausted.
Likewise I've watched Palids and Horsfields Bronze-cuckoos hunting
ground-dwelling grassland caterpillars from a vantage point like a fencepost
or bare stick in a shrub. When they spot something they swoop down, grab it,
then return to the roost to bash/gut then eat it.
As I understand it the B-f C-s are basically canopy feeders.
