Interesting. I can see that you can hop on board and update your
entry in real time. I also see that very few people on Tony
Palliser's list are also on the Surfbird's list. The nice thing about
the Surfbird's list is that birders like me don't show up at the
bottom of the list ;)
Do you know of an Australasian checklist?
Regards, Laurie.

Hi Laurie,
An Australasian list of sorts does exist.
There is a ranking of birders on Surfbirds for the Australasian life
list. The definition given is "The continental regions, including
offshore waters and islands out to 200 nautical miles, or half the
distance to a nearby continent with the Australasia Region including
Halmehera and the Moluccan rslands, New Guinea (with Waigeo, Biak,
Woodlark, and the Louisade Archipelago), the Admiralty Islands, and
the Bismarck Archipelago; but excludes Green Island, Bougainville,
the Solomon Islands, and the Micronesian islands of Tobi, Helen, and
Kapingamarangi."
Three Australians, all bird tour guides (and passionate birders),
sit at the top.

The Australian birders list sits at

Because it follows Christidis and Boles (2008) taxonomy this version
of the list is pretty new; it only includes birders that have
submitted their life list to Tony Palliser since February 2008.
