If you believe a group of such a paltry minority could have the ability to
swing pollies at any level (local, state or Federal)to put money that way,
well you ain't involved in politics. Maybe if we all moved to Eden-Monaro
(coincidentally my place of birth) or other such swing seats we'd have a
chance.
A few twitchers donating would not make a statistically significant
difference (p value >1.5000).

If a group of birders (such as those on birding-aus) got together and
campaigned for more research dollars to those with the purse strings (eg
politicians) then maybe more money would go into bird research.
Or they could donate to a body that funds research (maybe to the value of
the airfare to the next twitch?) this would help too, and be tax deductible.
