I'm trying to avoid paying an exorbitant daily rate (for excess insurance) to a car hire firm.

This is compounded by the fact that the excess on a 4WD is $7500, while the standard excess is 2500 - 4000, which seems to be what most travel insurance policies cover.

It must be possible.......mustn't it?

Cheers
