A very effective solution to the problem of Gulls on yachts is to set a few mouse traps on the decks. The traps are sprung by the gulls, dont hurt them even if their feet are caught (they pull the foot out without much physical damage) but are a really effective deterrent. Rat traps are less humane. Dont use the plastic traps with serrated jaws. You can also net the boat. I've also used mouse traps to keep herons and cormorants away from fishponds, they would perch on a railing or on the edge of the pool before jumping in a wreaking havoc among the koi, but after a week or so of mousetraps they dont return.
