Thanks for the reply, Martin, Barbara Trigg's book (at least in the copy I have) doesn't cover bird's pellets. Hanzab only mentions the W-t E pellets to discuss what remains were found in them, doesn't mention size or appearance. I've done a bit of investigation into owl pellets myself and can recognise them but the one my friend describes sounds far too large to be any owl species. She said it was about 8mm long and brown-furry on the outside but 'varnished' looking. I know the Sooty Owl has a varnished appearance but 8mm is far too large for any Sooty that I know of. Val |
