I did wonder about the 3 hours!!
We did it in 12hours straight from Seisia to Cairns and there were times we were travelling well in excess of the NSW Freeway speedlimit!! (A testimony to the quality of the roads in many places not long after grading) But it was due to a medical emergency so not at all fun. The week spent getting up there was much more enjoyable i can tell you!

Cheers
Dave

(The cryptic clue was "three hours each way" - driving from Cairns would take about 2 days unless you were a looking for a RFDS transfer.)

You were lucky, was that the drought year? Don't encourage these
guys, if something does go wrong they're in deep shmud.
Klaus won't drive up after the end of November, I think he was caught for a week or two by the one of the rivers up there. I reached Cooktown in January a couple of years ago, but it was a dry wet, and the road was mostly sealed. In a proper wet even the sealed roads can be washed away.

By the way, what is this Brazilian you went up with? Sounds like some
kind of haircut.

                                                         Cheers

 Bah !
I went to the very tip with 5 friends in January 2000, right in the
high wet season. We had no trouble at all with the roads either going up or coming down the Cape and it only took about three hours each way. The Brasilia handled the trip beautifully even though it rained most of
the way back. T.
