      Tim,

Re travelling to Cape York in the two weeks before Christmas.
You may get up there Tim. If you do it means that the wet will not
have started in earnest, and the chances are that you may not get back for a
month or three unless you leave your vehicle where it bogs or is washed
away, walk a few hundred ks to Weipa, Bamaga or Lockhart River and fly out.
If by Cape York you mean Cairns and north to about Port
Douglas/Cooktown you could be OK.
Some of the specials you mention can be seen from Kingfisher
Lodge,(or Park) a dedicated birders motel at Julatten, acessable from Cairns
on a sealed road, only occassionally subject to flooding.
                                                     Good Luck
                                                               Michael
Hunter
