I've seen Porphyrio spp or subspp similar to our Purple Swamphen in Africa, Asia Europe and NZ. The African and Asian ones have a green back. The NZ ones have this Maori name, "Pukeko". According to Google/Wikipedia, there are six subspp. of Porphyrio porphyrio' P.p.porphyrio Europe P.p.madagascariensis Africa P.p.poliocephalus Tropical Asia P.p.melanotus Australia (? NZ) P.p.indicus Indonesia P.p.pulviventris Phillipines It was once known as "Purple Gallinule", but this name now applies to the American Purple Gallinule ,Porphyrula martinica.
