To Syd, Colin, & others

While it has been clear from comments on this network that for several years now the Garmin was superior o the old Magellan, I am not convinced that that is still true. As indicated in my last e- mail my new Magellan Explorist XL is very accurate, very fast both for position and altitude.

Outside, in the open or under light forest it responds to stopping, starting, change of direction or change of speed in less than half a second. Inside our house it does slow down to around one second. None of this is with an external antenna. It does take four penlight batteries whereas the old one took only two.

None of the software works on Mac so like Garmin that is a drawback for some.

Happy locating

Mike Tarburton
