Hi EdwinThanks for the update on the Bittern. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind answering a few more questions. I have never birded Eastlakes Golf Course before. I take it they don't mind birders wandering in? Also any more specific details about location (gps/google maps) and how you enter the course would be hugely appreciated. I am going to go down tomorrow after work if i can (friday). Also seen was aLewin's Rail, 3 Baillon's Crake and at least 15 Latham's Snipe. Apparantly it was seen my another observer on Monday before Davi had seen it yesterday and I confirmed the sighting from seeing the photograph that observer took. I was looking at this very spot myselflast Sunday but did not see it (I was anticipating one to be there againbefore these sightings). It was at thesouthern end of the pond closest to Martin and Donaldson Streets Pagewood. It was seen on the reed bed edge visible from the causeway here. This is the same pond where the Yellow Wagtail was seen a few years ago and where these and Brown Bitterns have also turned up.Though Little Bitterns probably turn up in these places each year, thereappears to be a coincidence that they are more often seen during the drought years in Sydney and I would not be surprised if a few more of these stunning birds will be reported over the next few months.
