Hi all,
With the hot topic being pesky Ravens I recently received this interesting email which I have posted below. It was from a relative who lives just out of Mullumbimby in northern NSW, the species mentioned is actually Torresian Crow which is the dominate Corvid species up there....

Had this amazing thing happen on sat at 12.30 in the middle of the day, out of the shed comes this noise like a sheep was bleeting , it was really a mammal noise , so I got my gloves on and went to find out . At the back door near the round water tank is a cupboard with a mirror on it, it is in front of the window that is there. A crow wandered into the shed (the doors are permanently open)and some how it managed to fall between the mirror and the window and in so doing got caught. The other crow, probably its mate, came to the rescue. I found it prostrate on the top of the cupboard, with the other crows foot , ie two out of three of its toes, down its throat. It looked to me as it had tried to pull its mate out by the foot and in so doing the foot went down its throat the claws hooking into its throat preventing the foots removal. As I approached, the birds lay completely still and silent. The prostrated bird's blue eyes and completely black plumage was startling. I used a turks head broom to lift the prostrate mate , it sprang to life and jumping to the floor, it then hopped to the door and flew off. I then got the broom beneath the one behind the cupboard. I lifted it carefullly so as to not damage its wings, and as soon as it got above the mirror it flew off to the other open door, but it chose the closed window instead . It hit the window bounced back to the floor, regained its composure and flew out the door to join its mate. They both called to each other as they flew down the paddock toward the neighbours property.
